When you enter Klis Fortress, you start at the lower defenses facing the valley. These heavily fortified gates and towers protected the stronghold against Ottoman attacks for centuries.
This area requires careful footing due to steep, polished limestone paths. You will need roughly 35 minutes to explore the main spots before climbing higher.

This steep, heavily fortified gate is the only historical access point to the complex. The ancient limestone paths are heavily polished and very slippery. Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip to manage the incline safely.

Oprah Tower is the most important medieval tower on the western side of the fort. It provides clear angles for photographing the lower defensive walls. You can also see the city of Split in the distance from this vantage point.

This small building displays historical weapons, uniforms, and armor used by the Uskoks. Read the accompanying plaques to learn about these fierce warriors. They famously defended the area against the Ottoman Empire.
